When I upgrade Peachtree on a network, I receive the error message “A required file in the company folder could not be read.” How do I resolve this problem?
Peachtree requires the Peachtree program files or Server Components first be installed on the computer that will store your company data files. Note: If you have not installed the Peachtree program or Server Components on the server, you will be unable to successfully install the Peachtree application on each workstation. We recommend that you use the installation instructions provided at the beginning of the Peachtree installation wizard. The first window of the Setup presents a button labeled View Install Instructions. Selecting this option will open detailed, guided instructions. Please print and follow to ensure proper network installation of Peachtree.If you have already installed the Peachtree program files or Server Components and you are receiving the error message, “A required file in the company folder could not be read” then it indicates that you are attempting to install the program on a network computer and have specified a company data location other than the location where the server’s company data location has been installed. The required file it is looking for is called PEACHDAT.LOC file and is located in the datapath of the server installation. Important: Do not copy the PEACHDAT.LOC file into the proper directory. To correct, you must install the workstations to the same company data location as the server. If you intend to keep your previous version of Peachtree installed:When prompted during the installation to upgrade your prior version, select No. This allows you to change the location of the installed files, without modifying the existing version. For help understanding where your network installation is located, refer to the section below titled Network Setup Tips.Click to Enlarge:If you do not intend to keep your previous version of Peachtree installedCancel the installation, and from the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel and locate Add/Remove Programs. Remove your previous version(s) of Peachtree Accounting. Once completed, you will now be able to install Peachtree and specify the correct network location for the data. For help understanding where your network installation is located, refer to the section below titled Network Setup Tips.Network Setup TipsTowards the end of the server installation, the install wizard will give you the opportunity to view, save, or print the Network Installation Tips. Selecting this option will display a Notepad file with instructions specific to your network installation. These instructions explain which folder to map for the mapped drive on the workstations, which will be the location of the data selected during installation on each workstation.If the Network Setup Tips were not printed or saved at the time of installation on the server, the Notepad file can be opened at any time on the server. Follow the steps below on the server to locate the installation tips file.Using My Computer, browse to the Peachtree Program Path folder. This is the folder where Peachtree was installed. The default is C:\Program Files\Sage Software\Peachtree\Locate the file named Network Setup Tips.txt and double-click to open.This file contains details specific to setting up Peachtree on your network. You can save or print this file for your reference.
