This article describes how to manually remove Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac completely from your computer. .Prerequisites check
The following requirements must be met before you follow any of the methods in this article. You must quit all programs and close all windows. You must quit all programs and close all windows. You must be logged on as an administrator. If this is your personal computer, you are likely already logged on with an administrator account. If this is a computer that is part of a network at work, you might have to ask the system administrator for help. You will need your product key number. The product key location is different based on what kind of product you purchased. If you purchased a boxed product, the 25-character product key is located inside the disc case or on the back of the disc sleeve on a rectangular orange label that was included with the installation media, as shown in the following graphic. Do not skip steps in this article. You may find it easier to follow the steps if you print this article first. To remove Office, you must first use the Remove Office Tool. Note that not all items gets removed by using the Office Remove tool. Therefore, you must complete all the steps outlined in this article in order to remove all Office items completely from your system. Note that the steps below will not affect documents that have been created and saved in the Documents folder. To remove Office, follow these steps:Step 1: Quit all applications You must quit all applications before you uninstall Office 2008 for Mac. To close a program, select the program on the toolbar (top), and then select Quit. If you cannot quit a program or do not know how, hold down the Command and Option keys, and then press Esc on your keyboard. Select the program in the “Force Quit Application” window, and then select Force Quit. Click Force Quit to quit the program.Note You cannot quit Finder. When you are finished, click the red button in the upper-left corner.Collapse this imageExpand this imageStep 2: Use “Remove Office” Tool To start Remove office tool, follow these steps: Quit all applications and close all open windows. In the Finder, click Go and select Computer. Open Macintosh HD then open Applications folder. Open Microsoft Office 2008 folder. Open the Additional Tools folder. Double-click the Remove Office file to open. The “Remove Office” window will open. Click Continue. Follow directions on your screen. Step 3: Remove Office PreferencesNext we are going to remove the Microsoft Office 2008 preferences. Please note that if you have used the software at all on this computer then removing the preferences may reset any customizations that you have made. These customizations include changes made to toolbars, custom dictionaries and keyboard shortcuts that have been created. Also note that this step involves emptying the Trash. Be sure to check the Trash first to make sure that everything there can be deleted. Quit all application and close all open windows. In the Finder, click Go and then click Home.Open Library folder. Open Preferences folder. On the Finder, click View and click as a List. Select Microsoft folder and drag and drop it to Trash. Find all files starting with com.microsoft. (10 files) and drag and drop it to Trash. Open Trash and click Empty Trash from the task icon Collapse this imageExpand this imageor click Finder and then choose Empty Trash.Step 4: Remove Microsoft Folder To remove Microsoft Folder, follow these steps: On the Finder, click Go, click Home. Open the Library folder. Open the Application Support folder. Click to select Microsoft folder and click and drag and drop the folder to the Trash or click File then Move to Trash. Open Trash and click Empty Trash from the task icon or click Finder and then choose Empty Trash.Step 5: Remove ReceiptsOn the Finder menu, click Go select Computer. Open your hard drive “Macintosh HD” (Computer). Open the Library folder. Open the Receipts folder. Locate all the files starting with Office2008_en, there should be a long list of these files. If you dont see these files, proceed to Step 6. Drag and then drop these files to the Trash or click on each file and choose File then Move to Trash. Type in the Go to the folder box: /private/var/db/receiptsClick Go. Drag to Trash folder (icon) all receipts that have com.microsoft in the name. Drag to Trash (icon) the following two files if exist in this location: com.microsoft.office.slt_std.pkg.12.2.0.combo.bom com.microsoft.office.slt_std.pkg.12.2.0.combo.plist Open Trash to ensure that there is nothing there that you wish to save, if so create a folder on your desktop and drag anything you wish to keep from your Trash into this folder, once you are certain there is nothing in your Trash you wish to keep empty your Trash. Open Trash and click Empty Trash from the task icon or click Finder and then choose Empty Trash.Step 6: Move the Microsoft User Data folder to DesktopThis folder contains all of your User information for the Office software, including the Entourage database. Quit all application and all open windows. On the Finder, click Go, click Documents. Click Microsoft User Data folder and drag it to your Desktop. Do not move this file to Trash or delete it. If you do not wish to keep your Entourage identity (database), you can move the Microsoft User Data folder to Trash. Important: If you move it to Trash or empty Trash your Entourage identity (database) will be gone with all your emails, calendar and so on. Step 7: Remove Office icons from the DockClick the Office icon located on the Dock. Click Options then click Remove from Dock. Repeat for all Office icons located on the doc. You can also click the icon and drag and drop it into Trash. You should get all your Entourage information back. .
