HealthVault SDK 1.0

With the current release of the HealthVault platform and software development kit (SDK), HealthVault officially removes the “Beta” tag from the service, and Microsoft is labeling the current release HealthVault 1.0. As part of this important milestone, we are implementing a new support policy for the HealthVault SDK and platform methods.
We are announcing that we will release a major update to the HealthVault SDK approximately every 12 months. We will guarantee support for the two most current major releases so that interim releases that include minor updates, critical updates, and service packs will be backward compatible with the current and previous major release of the SDK.
We are implementing this policy going forward to help make sure all the participants in the HealthVault ecosystem, solution providers, customers, and consumers, can enjoy a high-integrity service when they use HealthVault.
As part of this announcement, we require all applications that connect to the HealthVault platform to use HealthVault SDK 1.0. This release contains important software updates and represents our first major release.
Of course, we continue to reserve the right to mandate an SDK upgrade to address critical security issues as needed. At Microsoft, we envision a healthcare ecosystem that puts patients at the center of a security-enhanced and connected network. This network can help people obtain information that helps them make the best health decisions. Health data is the asset that drives the system, and health IT is the tool that helps enable the seamless exchange of health data.
Trust is very important to a patient-centric healthcare system. For the system to succeed, participants must be willing to share health data. Because health data can be highly sensitive, consumers and healthcare providers will only share data if they trust that their data is protected. When trust is established, and data flows freely, everyone benefits.
