SUPPORT SOLUTION:
Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Content Management Server 2002, you open a posting that has local attachments whose names are longer than 50 characters. You remove the links to these local attachments from the posting, and then you save the posting. In this scenario, the Content Management Server 2002 database does not remove the attachment associations for the new posting version. Additionally, a SQL deadlock occurs when you try to save a posting that has 200 or more local attachments..This problem is fixed in the Content Management Server 2002 hotfix package that was released on August 26, 2008.

For more information about the hotfix package, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Description of the Content Management Server 2002 hotfix package (Cms2002souen.msp): August 26, 2008

After you install this hotfix package, you can clean up these duplicated associations by running a new background processing job. This prevents the problem that is described in the “Symptoms” section if the attachment name is less than 100 characters..Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the “Applies to” section..
