ACT! 1.x for Macintosh requires at least 2 MB of available RAM to operate. If you have loaded the software on a 2 MB machine, the system may crash when you try to start ACT!, or you may have enough memory to actually open the software. However, you will experience random system crashes when you try to access many of the program features.

To check your system’s memory capacity
Select About This Macintosh under the Apple Menu while in the Finder.
Check Largest Unused Block.
NOTE:
Largest Unused Block should be at least 4,096KB. This means that after the Macintosh loads the System Software, there should be at least 2 MB of free RAM for ACT! to access.
Allocating more memory to ACT!
More memory can be allocated to ACT! while in the Finder. This will give ACT! more memory to perform its functions, and can increase performance as the database files get larger.
Follow these steps to increase the amount of memory allocated to ACT!:
Choose File, Quit to close ACT! if it is currently running.
While in the Finder, locate the ACT! application icon and click on it once.
Choose File, Get Info. The ACT! Info window appears.
Locate the Memory Requirements box.
In System 7.1 and later, set the preferred size to 2500; in System 7.0.1 and earlier, set the current size to 2500.
NOTE:
These settings may be adjusted higher if required..
