You would like to create a duplicate contact but would rather not re-enter all of the information.

Duplicate Contacts can be created under the Contacts menu in ACT!. When you duplicate a contact, you can choose to duplicate the data in all fields, or you can duplicate the data in only the Primary fields.

When you choose to duplicate the data in all fields, Contact name, Salutation and E-Mail address(s) are NOT duplicated.

Default Primary fields are the Company field and the Phone, Fax and Address fields (including City, State, Zip Code and Country). You may add the primary attribute to most ACT! fields or remove this attribute from the default primary fields from the Define Fields dialog as desired. You may also print a fields detail report that will display the primary status of all fields in your database.

Creating a Duplicate Contact Record
Follow the steps below to duplicate a Contact record:

Click the Contacts menu, and then click Duplicate Contact. The Duplicate Contact dialog box appears.

Note: Images in your version of ACT! may differ slightly from the images
used in this Answer.

Enable the desired option, and then click OK. A duplicate contact record appears with data duplicated as specified in the Duplicate Contact dialog box.

Changing the Primary Field Attribute
Follow the steps below to change the Primary attribute of a field:

Click the Tools menu, and then click Define Fields. The Define Fields - Create, edit or delete fields dialog box appears.
Select the field for which you wish to change the Primary attribute, and then click Edit Field. The Define Fields - Enter field name and type dialog box appears:

Enable or disable the Primary Field - Copy this field when duplicating the record option as desired, and then click Finish.
Repeat steps 2 - 3 to change this attribute on other fields before you Close the Define Fields - Create, edit or delete fields dialog box.

Fields Detail Report
You can use the ACT! Diagnostics utility to generate a Fields Detail Report that displays the primary status for all database fields. Follow these steps:

Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type act8diag (ACT!
2006) ,act7diag (ACT! 2005) or actdiag (ACT! 2007/2008/2009) into the Open field, and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
Click the Databases button near the lower-left corner. The Databases view appears.
Click the grey rectangle to the left of the database for which you wish to run the Fields Detail Report. A triangle appears within this rectangle, and the line is selected for this database:

Note: Images in your version of ACT! may differ slightly from the images
used in this Answer.

Click the Actions menu, point to Database Structure, and then click Fields Detail Report. The Database Fields Report dialog box appears:

Click Yes to view the report. Microsoft Notepad launches with your fields detail report:

If Primary: 1 is displayed, this is a Primary field (as illustrated below). If Primary: 0 is displayed, this is NOT a Primary field.
