After converting your database from ACT! 2000 to ACT! 2005 or later, you find that attached e-mails will not open. Upon further investigation you may notice that the attached files have the .DET file extension.
In ACT! 2000, e-mail messages that you attach to Contact records are given the .DET file extension. ACT! 2005
or later will be unable to open these files correctly, if this file extension is
not associated with ACT! 2005 E-mail. To resolve this issue, you must ensure
that the .DET file extension is associated with ACT! 2005 or later E-mail. Follow the steps below:

Close ACT!.
Launch Windows Explorer (or My Computer).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options. The Folder Options dialog box appears.

Under the File Types tab, scroll to the .DET extension (as illustrated above). Click the Change button. The Open With dialog box appears.

Click the program, and then click OK. The Folder Options dialog box re-appears with the correct file association displayed (as illustrated below).

Click Close to exit the Folder Options dialog box.

You will now be able to open .DET files attached to your ACT! contacts.
