You install or reinstall a Microsoft Office suite. In this situation, you are prompted to type a 25-character product key for Microsoft Office Suite. If you do not enter the product key when you are prompted, Microsoft Office suite may be locked.Note If you were able to use the Microsoft Office suite when you purchased your computer, but are now prompted to type the product key. That is because the version is a trial version of Microsoft Office suite preinstalled your computer manufacturer. In this case, you have to purchase a product key for the full version of Microsoft Office suite. This article describes:How to find the product key if you cannot locate itFor a trial version, visit “How to locate the product key for a trial version

Note for 2007 Office suites:When your 2007 Office suite requests a product key, the installation will continue even if you do not type the key. If the suite is installed in this scenario, a prompt asks you to provide the product key every time that you open a 2007 Office application. After an Office application is started more than twenty-five times, you can no longer change or create new documents. However, existing documents can be opened but cannot be modified..Product key information

The process to find or replace a product key is different for a
trial version than it is for a full version of the product. A trial version is
a free, temporary version of a Microsoft product that lets you activate one
time to try it before you purchase it. After you activate the trial version, it
is fully functional for 60 days. To find the product key for a trial version, visit
the “How to locate the product key for a
trial version” section.A
full version provides a perpetual license. This
means that you can activate the software
on two computers ,
and use the software for the life of each computer. To find or replace the
product key for a full version, visit
the “How to locate the product key for a
full version” section.Note Microsoft Office Student and Teacher 2003, the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 suites, and Microsoft Home and Student 2010 enable the software to be activated on three different computers. The
Microsoft
Office suite that is installed on
OEM computers must be used only on the computer which
has this Office suite originally installed. How to locate the product key for a trial version
3,
Important You can run a trial version of a 2007 Office system program up to 25 times before you must enter a product key. If
you have not entered a valid product key
after this grace period, the software enters
Reduced Functionality mode,
and then
many features become unavailable. Although it is not required, we recommend that you enter your product key at installation. Trial versions of Office 2010 require that the Product Key be entered during Setup.
